Comparing 15" Lynx Aluminum Wheel Vs. Steel Wheels for Trailer Trailer

Question:

Hi Connor, could you also provide pricing for that aluminum wheel with 8-ply rated tire? And comparison with a steel wheel, such as :: Kenda Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with 15inch Black Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D Item # AM32424 The older wheels arent being made anymore, so if the Black steel wheel is a better, longer life option, we may just go with that,...unless Im missing something. The Aluminum wheel is going to look different anyway, and I would expect longer life from the steel wheel :-

We do offer the 15" Lynx Aluminum Wheel pre-mounted with a tire such as the Westlake ST205/75R15 Radial Tire w 15" Lynx Aluminum Wheel part # LHAW320. This is a great combo but if you have a travel trailer, the benefits of an aluminum over a steel wheel are insignificant so if you'll be replaced them all, the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with 15" Black Mod Wheel part # AM32424 is honestly the better route for the money and what I would do personally. The main benefit of using an aluminum wheel on a travel trailer over a steel wheel is mostly cosmetic. They are lighter which in theory should improve mpg's i.e. less rotational mass but I doubt you would see anything quantifiable at the pump. I would only really go aluminum over steel is if the application were a boat trailer. That said, I also understand customer's with nicer, higher end trailers wanting to keep up with appearances and go with the better looking aluminum wheels.

In regards to durability, the steel wheel will also be stronger and last longer. I have seen some instances where aluminum wheels cracked after hitting large pot holes but this isn't a super common issue.
