Will Superwinch LT2000 Electric Winch # 1120210 Work on an TMS Electric Mobility Chair Carrier

Question:

I have a Pronto electric mobility chair that weighs about 225 to 250 lbs and I would like to mount the winch on the side of my 500 lb cargo mobility carrier to gently pull it up the loading ramp which is included with the mobility carrier. Do you think this will do the job and does it have a seperate remote control to operate the winch and does it come with mounting plate or do I have to order it seperately and if so do you know which mounting plate i need.

The electric winch you referenced, Superwinch LT2000 Electric Utility Winch # 1120210, is a remote-control-equipped 12V winch with a 50-foot wire rope that has a line pull rating of 2000-lbs and a line speed of 2.5-feet/minute. This winch has more than enough capacity to pull your 250-lb Pronto electric mobility chair up the ramp of your mobility carrier. According to my contact at Superwinch, a better choice is a winch with a braking system, such as the Terra 2500, part # SW1125220. This would hold the line in place in the event of loss of 12V power.

The LT2000 winch you referenced does not come with a mounting plate. It is intended primarily for use on ATVs that have winch mounting locations or that have hitch receivers where the winch can mount. We do not offer a winch that is specifically intended to mount on a mobility carrier or other similar device. The Terra 2500 does include a mounting plate.

The issue that comes into play is that any winch will deliver its rated pulling capacity only when it is mounted as intended by the manufacturer. Generally this means that the entire winch mounting surface is able to make full contact with the flat surface of the underlying material it is mounted to, and that that material has the strength to allow the winch to work to its full rated capacity. For example, a carrier with a steel mesh deck would not provide enough support for mounting a winch. Your TMS WCR-2849 carrier has such as mesh deck and would not be strong enough to hold the winch mount.

If you can advise the brand and part number for the mobility carrier you are using I may be able to research its suitability for use with a winch mounted to it. It really depends on the carrier material and type of construction whether or not it could support the load presented by the winch.

For reference I have linked an article concerning electric winches.
