Cargo Box that Will Not Interfere with Rear Hatch on 2004 Chevy Tahoe and 2004 Chevy Trailblazer

Question:

I see this on your website, but Im not finding details specifications/cost/pictures/etc. After searching the web I did come to find that its 84inch long. Would you have any other recommendations for the 2004 Trailblazer EXT? The factory roof rack rails are approximately 33inch across the roof. Were trying not to purchase aftermarket roof rack accessories, but rather just a cargo carrier that will fit correctly. We have a sun roof and was hoping to have use of the back door....84inch is a lot of over hang/restriction on use of the back tailgate swinging upwards. Were heading to Georgia from New Jersey on the 15th or 16th of next month and were hoping to have the added cargo space up top.

The Thule Atlantis cargo boxes have been discontinued which is why you are not seeing all of the information. The current generation of Thule boxes are the Force, Sonic, and Pulse and there are few others like the Hyper and Sidekick.

I checked with Thule and there are many boxes you can use that will not interfere with the rear hatch opening. I recommend the Force XT, # TH6358B. It has 18 cubic feet of space and measures 82-3/4 inches long. The mounting feet can move forward and backward which allows the box to be more forward or rearward on the roof to allow for hatch clearance. I have linked a video review for you. It will also fit a 2004 Tahoe with factory roof rack and not interfere with the hatch.

You will not need to add any additional parts to install the box. It is a direct fit to the factory crossbars on your 2004 Chevy TrailBlazer EXT. Also, if the crossbars on your vehicle can be moved forward or rearward, you may have to do that to get the clearance you need. Thule does not specify if the factory bars do that or not, they simply state if the box will fit a factory rack and not interfere with the hitch.

The sunroof you are going to want to keep closed because the box will likely be in the way and you would not want to open it anyway because it will be noisy.
