Can Higher Capacity Leaf Springs be Used on a Trailer Weighed Down by a Bobcat Tractor

Question:

I have a dual axle trailer and I load me 5,600 lb Bobcat on it. It appears that the trailer is low to the ground when loaded. Can I raise the trailer clearance by adding heavier springs? What do you suggest.?

I do not recommend using higher capacity springs because that will give you a stiff ride. Also the different springs may require a different hanger orientation and since the hangers are welded on this is a professional job since the old ones have to be cut off and new ones welded on. Even if you added the higher capacity springs, the axle and tire capacities will not also increase so you could easily overload the trailer.

With a load on the trailer, it is going to compress the springs. If the deflection is significant and the trailer is bottoming out then it is likely either the trailer is overloaded or suspension components like springs, hangers, and shackles, need to be replaced with the proper sizes for that specific trailer.

You might also want to consider adding a suspension enhancement product, # TTRA1032, to better support the load and to prevent sag. On a tandem axle trailer you would need to use 2 kits. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.
