Does The Stromberg Carlson 5th Wheel Tailgate Have To Be Locked During Use
Question:
I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 3500. I am interested in this tailgate however I am wondering, does it need to be locked when traveling?? I think I will be fine adjusting from a lever to turning a knob but I am worried I will not remember to lock the tailgate every time I drive. If it does not need to be locked I am sold. I am hoping the lock is just an extra safety feature and you can latch it and then drive down the road no problem and it won’t open. I look forward to hearing from you!

The Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate # VGM-07-4000 doesn't have to be locked in order to drive around, it's just recommended to lock it because it installs and removes so easily that someone could take off with it in just a few minutes.
There are latches on both ends of the tailgate that match the ones on your factory tailgate and hold it in place. The center release mechanism that includes the lock would have to be physically turned to release the latches and allow the tailgate to lower so you don't need to worry about locking in when in use.
