Can Same Alternator be Used when Converting Golf Cart to Lithium Batteries

Question:

Hello again! You have been quite helpful in upgrading many things in my 2007 Damon Daybreak 3276 and now I have received an email regarding lithium batteries. I have been reading potential overheating of alternator, charging full and partial regarding switching from lead acid to lithium, emergency starting using the chassis dash starting switch, also the chassis battery’s ability to recharge house batteries while driving. Thus what other components are needed for changing from my dual 6 v golf cart batteries to dual lithiums while still maintaining these other functions? Thanks!

Lithium batteries charge at a slightly higher voltage than most batteries so the charging system would need to be upgraded on the golf cart as well as if you were to use any type of wall charger. Since the Power Sonic Golf Cart Battery part # PS94FR that you referenced is 12 volt you'd need to wire two of these in parallel so that the voltage stays at 12 volts and not in series which doubles voltage.

Lithium batteries charge at 14.6 volts so that would be the voltage you'd need to charge your batteries at.
