Recommended In Cab Brake Controller For 2010 Lexus RX 350 With 4-Way for The Least Amount of Wiring
Question:
Looking for a recommendation. I have a 2010 Lexus RX 350 with hitch and 4 conductor flat connector. I need to upgrade to electric brakes using 7 conductor round connector for a heavier trailer I acquired. The car does not have an electric brake harness for an under the dash connection. I dont want to use wireless and I dont want to cut into any wires under the dash. I would like something that gets its power from a cigarette lighter type connection and its brake signal and other connections from the existing 4 conductor trailer connection. Can you suggest something?

I do have a way for you to consider but it will still require some wiring as there is not a brake controller on the market which will do everything you are wanting. The Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 will allow you to connect to your 4-way flat on your 2010 Lexus RX 350. This will give you a 7-way with the additional wiring needed to run a brake controller. You will need to run the duplex wire to the front for a battery and brake controller connection. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 is one of my favorite controllers as it uses an LCD screen which makes adjusting and using the controller much easier. To get your brake signal rather than tying into the brake switch you can attach a Universal Stop Light Switch # RM-751000 to your brake pedal. This will detect when the brake pedal is pushed to tell the controller when to activate. With the Prodigy P3 being a proportional controller it will combine the input of the brake pedal along with the inertia of the vehicle stopping to adjust the amount of force placed on the trailer brakes.
