Recommended Trailer Brake Controller For 2020 Honda Ridgeline Which Won't Damage Factory Fuse

Question:

I recently bought a 2020 Honda Ridgeline with a tow package and am looking to install a break controller. Several forums have suggested that the initial install and connection of a break controller will short out the associated fuse. Is this a common? Do you have a troubleshooting guide video should I encounter this problem?

The fuse becoming damaged on your 2020 Honda Ridgeline after installing a trailer brake controller is not a common issue. Looking at the owners manual for your Ridgeline I do see it comes with a 20 amp fuse and most of the people experiencing the issue are most likely using a brake controller which requires more power. I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 as it only requires a 20-amp circuit for up to 2 trailer axles. You will be able to connect this to your factory wiring with a Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3070-P.

On a controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR the manufacturer says to use a 30-amp circuit which would easily damage your fuse. In the event the fuse does become damaged it is located in slot 3 of the engine compartment fuse box B. This box is located near the brake fluid reservoir under your hood. We do not have a video showing the location or how to replace the fuse at this time.
