Prodigy P2 Brake Controller on 2001 Silverado 3500 Works With Manual Brake Switch But Not w/ Pedal  

Question:

Have installed a Hopkins Insight Flex-mount brake control in a 2001 Chevy 3500 The flex control will work the electric brakes on the trailer but the brake pedal in the truck does not, the brake lights on the trailer light but brakes dont work.

When a brake controller applies the trailer brakes with the manual override but not the brake pedal, typically it is the brake controller's connection to the stoplight switch that is at fault. Use a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to test the red wire exiting the controller. You should see voltage on this wire when the brake pedal is pressed.

If you find no signal on that wire, the most common cause of this happening is a blown CHMSL fuse. The CHMSL (Center High Mounted Stop Lamp) , also known as 3rd brake light fuse is located in the fuse box under the hood. I have edited a photo showing where the fuse is located. Check the fuse and replace if necessary. Early 2000's GM trucks sometimes had bad stoplamp switches, so that's also a possibility.
