Is it Possible to Install Yakima FatCat 6 and SkyBox21 on 66 or 78 Inch Crossbars
Question:
I have a 2014 Dodge Journey. I have a Fatcat6 roof mount ski rack and Yakima Skybox 21. Will they fit side by side on the 66 inch crossbars or do I need to jump up to the 78 inch crossbars?? Also is it safe to have both of them on my roof, and also, can they go beyond the crossbars??

As both items are 36 inches wide, both the Yakima SkyBox 21 and FatCat 6 will not fit on a 66 inch crossbar. Using the 78 inch crossbar would probably accommodate both items, but attempting to do so would have the crossbars and items mounted upon them extending past the edge of the roof, which can be a safety hazard. You would also need to ensure that the weight of the ski carrier, the cargo carrier and the items stored in/on them do not exceed the 125 lb weight capacity of the rack or the capacity of the roof, whichever is least. Your owners manual or Dodge should be able to provide you with roof capacity information.
Although carrying both items you describe might theoretically be possible, I would not recommend it. Carrying luggage that will not fit in the vehicle using a hitch mounted cargo carrier like the Curt # C18150 and a cargo bag like part # 988501 would be a much safer plan. The bag is highly water resistant, but packing anything that absolutely cannot get wet in plastic is recommended.
