Cat-Back Performance Exhaust for 2004 Nissan Titan With 5.6L V8
Question:
Im looking for performance exhaust or muffler for my 04 Titan thats a little louder then stock preferably on the deeper throaty sounding side but loosing HP and MPGs isnt and option i would like to gain some if possible. Right now I have a banks system and its to loud. I was told that the Flowmaster® - American Thunder™ Cat-Back Exhaust System 574473 is the way to got but I was also told the magnaflow is the way to go.

Just about any aftermarket cat-back exhaust system for your 2004 Nissan Titan will produce a louder exhaust note than the stock system. The exact sound level and exhaust note will vary depending on whether the system you choose is a flow-through or chambered type. Generally flow-through exhausts like the MagnaFlow # MF15849 for the Crew Cab short bed Titan will be louder than a chambered system, but any other aftermarket products that are installed, such as an intake, also will have an effect on the final exhaust loudness and tone.
Fuel economy is not typically improved all that much by just changing an exhaust. The exhaust is the back-end half of the engine breathing system, and the front-end intake is part of the same system. A new free-flowing exhaust without a new intake is unlikely to give you noticeably better mileage. Also, we find that when customers add a new exhaust (that sounds much better than the old one) they sometimes tend to develop a heavier foot on the accelerator since the sound of the engine is more pleasing to the ear. You are much more likely to gain power and torque than fuel economy by changing your exhaust, although your fuel economy should not decrease unless your driving habits change significantly.
I checked the Flowmater website but I was not able to find the product you referenced, # 574473. I did review another of the cat-back exhausts they offer for the various versions of the 2004 Titan. Flowmaster describes their dual-exit cat-back system # 17406 as having a moderate sound level. This system uses aluminized steel construction and carries a 3-year limited warranty.
The MagnaFlow # MF15849 that you referenced uses 100-percent stainless steel construction and carries a Lifetime Warranty on the entire system. The included muffler uses no baffles or chambers that can restrict airflow, so this system will decrease back pressure and produce an exhaust note that is deep and throaty on the throttle but quiet inside the vehicle. This system can produce up to 18 additional horsepower and up to 22-ft-lbs of additional torque. You might refer to the linked article on MagnaFlow systems.
The Titan exhaust system from Banks Power that I found on their website seems to share construction similar to the Magnaflow, but carries only a 5-year warranty.

Since we do not sell Banks or Flowmaster exhausts I cannot offer you first-hand comparisons of their sound, but you may be able to find Youtube videos from Titan owners using some of these systems to let you compare their sound qualities.
