Auto Adjust Trailer Brakes Self Tighten Until Wheel Locks Up I bought a 2020 Lookinch 16foot
Question:
Hello Experts. I bought a 2020 Lookinch 16foot trailer. 1 owner and he used it for storage. My problem is the self adjusting brakes keep auto adjusting until one or more wheel locks up. I keep taking off the wheels/drums the tool is just to tough to do and keep adjusting the Adjusterinch to the minimum/end. I did try to tap a flat screw driver to the teeth on the Adjusterinch to be real tight so it wont open up but that does work. Can I just remove the self adjusting lever behind the Adjuster, also circled in light blue in the attached pic, labeled LH so every time I brake, it doesnt get smaller and smaller and lockup? Since the trailer is new, I dont want to buy 4 new non-adjusting brakes. I also wanted to find out, could this issue come from not using a brake controller? I added a 7 pin round connector to my SUV, which the factory states it tows 5000lbs. so Im well under weight. Here are a few pics and let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks

It sounds like there is a malfunction with you self-adjusting trailer brakes. The issue can actually be caused by a few different things such as cracked pads, broken springs, etc. The only thing I can really recommend is to look over all the components to see if there is anything out of the ordinary. If you can't find anything then I must recommend you take the trailer into a service center to be properly diagnosed. I can't recommend modifying your existing assemblies unfortunately.
If you don't want to mess with taking the trailer in for service or paying for new brakes, you can always switch to idler hubs like the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K for example. This might be a better option for you in the long haul as you said you don't even use the brakes now.
If you can provide me with an axle capacity, I can make sure you get the correct idler hubs.
