Recommended Flat Towing Components For A 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie
Question:
I have a 2016 RAM Laramie 1500 2WD installed a REMCO Driveshaft Disconnect so I can flat tow to be towed behind a 2018 Newmar Ventana with air brakes. I want to use a Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain 8K tow bar RM-676 and a compatible Demco Air Force One with proportional braking SM-99243, I have already installed Roadmaster Base Plates RM-52289-5. Truck has adjustable brake/gas pedals which appears to be compatible with the Demco system. I will also install a Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit, RM-156–25. I purchased a Roadmaster 7 Wire to 6 Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit RM-15267 but the RM-676 tow bar already has the 7 to 6 wire line and 6 wire connector. Is there a different option for the towed vehicle wiring kit? Do I need a brake relay kit for this vehicle looking at other comments it appears to be unnecessary? Thanks for your help!

If the brake lights do not work with your vehicle's ignition key turned to the "tow" position, you need a brake light switch kit to provide a signal to the supplemental braking system. This is something you can quickly check with a second person.
The brake light switch wire on your 2016 Ram 1500 isn't accessible so you'll need to use a stop light switch kit for the brake signal that the Demco Air Force One # SM99243 will wire into. You'll want part # RM-751461, unless you have an electronic shifter in which case you'll need part # RM-751468 instead.
Since you're getting the Nighthawk # RM-676 you'll get the adapter cord as well as the socket so all you really need is # RM-152 for the diodes and 4-pole wiring to transfer your brake, turn, and running light signals from the motorhome to the Ram.
