Thule Transporter Hitch Mounted Enclosed Cargo Carrier for a 2009 Mazda 5

Question:

So, I have a Mazda5 and want to buy a THULE transport box. It requires a class 2 receiver, but I can only find class 1 for my car. Do they make a class 2 for the Mazda 5? I am reading about Mazda 5 owners who use the transporter and I dont know how they do it without a class 2 hitch? Any help would be awesome!! Thanks!

2 inch hitches are not available for the Mazda 5. The only hitches available for Mazda 5 are Class 1 1-1/4 inch hitches. Class 1 and 2 hitches are both 1-1/4 inch in size, but the hitch pin hole location prevents Class 2 accessories from being used on Class 1 hitches. There are Thule Transporter boxes available for 1-1/4 inch Class 2 hitches, so I am not sure how people are using them on the Class 1 hitches without modifying the carrier, which will void the carrier manufacturer warranty and is an unsafe practice as the carrier could break.

We have 3 flat cargo carriers that will fit a Class 1 hitch, and I will link you to the page that shows all 3 of them. You could use a weather proof cargo bag, like the etrailer part # 988501 to keep your cargo dry on the carrier.
