Motor Upgrade Kit For Pre-IMGL Kwikee Steps Installed On a 2001 Dodge Van
Question:
I have a Kwikee step installed on a 2001 Dodge van. The step was installed after 2001 obviously, but the date on the electrical control which I suspect is bad is dated JUN 1997 MCF. The number stamped on the control unit is 909513. The label on the step itself says 30 SERIES, and the serial number is 06703. The control unit looks nothing like the units you have on your site but I am hopeful that one of them will still work with this older step. This step is controlled by the door magnet only and has no external switches attached. Also, there is no light with this step. As I said, Im pretty sure the control unit is bad. It has worked intermittently for the last couple of years. It stops working in the heat of summer and then starts working again in the cold of winter. Sounds like a cold solder joint inside and I plan to try to open it up but it may not be openable. Meanwhile, Id like to know the cost to replace it if that becomes necessary. I hope you can help with this. Thank you in advance.

The Kwikee steps on your 2001 Dodge Van were made before they switched to the newer IMGL motor and controller. You will need the Motor Upgrade Kit # LC379145 to update to the new components. The difference in controller shape is the main indicator of the older controller as the IMGL style controller has the newer shape you are finding.
