I have linked our article about 4-way wiring below which you can use to ensure you have your trailer wired correctly. It sounds like you have a wishbone harness like the Harness # A35W42B. It will have a ground wire, 2 wires for the running lights and 2 wires for the brake/turn signals. While the colors don't always match the function the ground is typically white, 2 brown wires(one for each side) for running lights, a yellow for the left turn signal/brake light and green for the right turn signal/brake light.

Please let me know if you have any specific trouble shooting questions. A Test Light # PTW2993 is best to use as it allows you to check for power along the wire. This helps to identify broken wires inside the frame or wire sheathing.
