Can You Back Up With A Flat Towed Vehicle Still Connected To The Motorhome

Question:

2017 Chev Colorado 4WD. Have been towing with a different brand tow bar that is NOT non-binding. I bought the original base plate that is still on the vehicle in 2017 and installed it myself. The 2 yokesinch that stick out from the tow vehicle to accept the tow bar mounts are 27inch c to c and accept a 1/2inch tab with a hole for 1/2inch mounting pin. That all looks like it should work in the pictures you supply on your web site. My question is this: Can I back up with the tow vehicle attached to the RV? Thank you

The Demco Commander II Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511012-BX is designed to work with Blue Ox baseplates, but can also be used with Demco Classic and Tabless base plates. I recommend verifying exactly what you have before purchasing a new tow bar. If you want to send in a few pictures I can try to determine what you have.

As for your actual question, you can NEVER back up with a tow bar. Doing so will crumple the arms of the tow bar and you'll be looking at costly repairs. Tow bars are only designed to pull and can't handle a pushing force.
