Can a Kuat Hitch Bike Rack Be Used On a Bike with Fenders

Question:

I have noticed conflicting opinions amongst your experts as to whether or not a person should use a Kuat NV 2.0 rack with bikes that have fenders. Could you please clarify?

Expert Reply:

The general rule for hitch mounted bike racks is that you cannot use a wheel mount style bike rack on a bike with fenders. Therefore; the Kuat Piston, Kuat NV 2.0, Kuat Sherpa 2.0, and Kuat Transfer V2 are all incompatible. The reason for this is that in order to secure the wheel hook on the tire, you'd need to do so in front of the fender and this would not offer enough hold for the bikes increasing the chances for the hook to come loose and the bikes to fall.

If you are looking for a platform style bike rack for a bike with fenders you must go with a frame mount style, the Swagman Dispatch Bike Rack for 2 Bikes part # S44FR is a good option for this but if you don't like that you can browse from our selection of frame mount hitch racks which I have attached for you below.
