Question:
Can a Heavier axle be used? or installed on this trailer? Malone EcoLight Trailer # MAL53FR

According to Malone, a heavier axle should not be installed on the EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL53FR. Even if you did install a heavier axle, it would not increase the capacity of the trailer. You would still be limited to the 400 lb capacity due to other components and the trailer frame. If you want a higher capacity I recommend the Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG460G instead with an 800 lb capacity. Keep in mind, the crossbars are limited to 500 lbs.
