Are Husky Base Rails Rated High Enough For A 20k Hitch In A 2006 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I have a Chevrolet/GMC Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Mount Kit 31415 made by Husky. I cant find any specs as to the list rating of this kit. Is it safe to use with a 20k hitch?

The Husky 31415 kit appears to be just some universal brackets that don't include the base rails. It doesn't have a weight capacity listed since it's just the brackets so I can't say for certain that these would be safe with a 20k trailer. Also, if these are secondhand you really shouldn't reuse the hardware as it's integrity could be compromised from the original installation usage. That being said, most rail kits are typically rated for far more than the truck is capable of towing.

I honestly wouldn't recommend using these simply because universal kits are a pain to install and require a lot of drilling into the frame of the truck to install. Instead I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50064-58, which come with custom-fit brackets that won't require drilling to install. The included rails are ISR rated so they'll work with multiple hitch brands.
