Troubleshooting Trailer Way With Blue Ox SwayPro 1500 Installed By Dealer On a 2022 Flagstaff 26FKBS

Question:

We had a blue ox swaypro installed by the dealer on our 2022 flagstaff 26FKBS weighing 7100 lbs. During the drive home on the interstate 15 miles, we had almost constant “correction” felt in our Armada platinum tow vehicle. There were about 20 mph winds and plenty of truck traffic but we felt that slight jerkiness until we got off and slowed down. We have a tongue weight of 800-900 pounds so it would seem we have the correct hitch with the Swaypro 1500. Any idea as to the cause of the jerking and/or how to not have it???

The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution # BXW1500 is too much hitch for your 2022 Flagstaff 26FKBS. This hitch system is for a trailer with a tongue weight of 1,000-1,500 and maximum weight of 15,000lbs. With you having only 800-900lbs of tongue weight the hitch is not rated properly. Personally, I also have never liked the SwayPro for sway protection as every other weight distribution hitch which uses chains to attach to the frame brackets does not provide sway protection. If the dealer recommended and installed this hitch specifically for your camper they should take it back as it is clearly not rated for your trailer based on the information you provided.

I recommend going to the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET with your Flagstaff. This hitch is rated correctly at 800-1,200lbs of tongue weight and us to 12,000lbs. It uses friction type sway which has been trusted and used for decades.
