Recommended Trailer Brake Controller For a 2002 Holiday Rambler Ambassador With Air & Exhaust Brakes
Question:
I have a 2002 holiday rambler ambassador. I purchased a Tekonsha Prodigy 2 Brake Controller I’m waiting to install so my brakes will stop being ruined by the exhaust brake. I’m familiar with installing these on a regular pickup, but with the air brakes and exhaust brake being wired into it I want to make sure it’s done correctly.

I recommend using a Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller # HA100400C as it is designed to work on a vehicle like your 2022 Holiday Rambler Ambassador with air brakes. This will tie into your air brakes ensuring the trailer brakes are only activated when you press the brake pedal and air is sent through the brake lines. If you were to use the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 you do run the risk of the trailer brakes being activated when the exhaust brake is activated. This would cause the trailer brakes to be powered when going down long hills and cause excessive wear as the exhaust brake is working to control your speed and the brakes will be working to try and stop the trailer and your motorhome.
