Options For Cargo Carrier For Travel Trailer

Question:

Looking for a cargo carrier for my travel trailer. I know from my research that bike racks for travel trailers require special considerations because of stress differences between use on a vehicle vs automobile. Does that apply to cargo carriers? What do you recommend? Thanks. Bob

There aren't the same type of manufacturer restrictions on cargo carriers at the rear of travel trailers as there are for bike racks. That said, I do recommend ensuring the best possible stability, and if you have a 4" x 4" or 4-1/2" x 4" bumper on your travel trailer, use a cargo carrier designed specifically for that, the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier for RV Bumper # e99049.

But if you were instead wanting a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, I highly recommend going with a non-folding carrier for the best overall stability, the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # C18152.

For the latter you'll also need Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880, and for a cargo bag that fits either, the Cargo Bag w/ Mounting Straps # 988501.

Either of these cargo carriers will work, but if it were me I'd go with the bumper mounted option as it has the best stability due to the fact it mounts with brackets at two different spots compared to the single mounting point of the hitch-mounted carrier.
