Are 1000 lb Rated Equal-i-zer Spring Bars Interchangeable with 600 lb Bars

Question:

I have the 10000 lb equalizer hitch.I think there is too much spring action for my application. Can I replace the bars with the 6000600 lb tongue wt. bars?

I am not sure what you mean by too much spring action. If you are wanting to downgrade the system by using lower rated spring bars, you would do so because the current bars are NOT providing enough spring.

In any event, my Equal-i-zer representative tells me that the weight distribution head assembly of the 600 lb unit and the 1000 lb unit are different enough so that the bars are unfortunately not interchangeable, because the sockets that the spring bars insert into are smaller on the 600 lb TW unit.

When choosing the correctly rated system for your needs, knowing the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer is helpful. To this figure, you will want to add the weight of anything stowed in the cargo area or truck bed behind the rear axle. The total of these two figures, what I call Total Tongue Weight (TTW), is the figure you will use to choose the correctly rated system for your needs. If you find your TTW is at or slightly below 600 lbs, there will be no harm in using the 1000 lb system, you just will not get much flex out of the bars.

I have linked you to an FAQ article that explains how to determine your TTW.
