Will the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter Work for Adding a Third Brake Light to Trailer
Question:
Im trying to add a third break light to my trailer using part #118158 and the instructions here about sealing off the ends of the yellow and green wire on the output side. Im getting the buzzing complained of elsewhere. To eliminate any other contributing factor Ive removed all other light connections so that its just directly wired: left turn wire to left turn input, right turn wire to right turn input, and ground direct to trailer chassis. Without attaching a light to red output wire, I get buzzing from the converter as soon as breaks are applied. I intended to attach an LED third break light, and have load resistors for that purpose, but I never got that far. I read elsewhere on etrailers that the output turn wires on the converter MUST be attached to something, but that contradicts the instructions here. Any ideas? All lights are incandescent, and I intended to

Expert Reply:
I do have an option for you but the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter part # 118158 isn't really designed for use with a third brake light. That said, we have had others be able to use this converter for that purpose but we have also had some others not be able to so there has been some mixed success. I think it has to do with the light used for the brake light but we don't have guidelines for compatibility from the manafcatuer For that reason, I don't recommend using the converter for this purpose and instead recommend the 3rd Brake Light Logic Module part # PP20-702 which is designed for this this.
