What is the Tongue Weight Capacity of the Titan Trailer Hitch Box Extension 45018

Question:

TWC should be 10 of GTW correct? So if GTW is 5000# the tounge weight is 500# Does this 500# capacity take into acount for the bumps in the road that can cause bouncing and increase more force on the extension? I fear that it may excead the TWC and cause damage / bend to the extension,

Helpful Expert Reply:

Tongue weight capacity would be 10 percent of the gross trailer weight capacity for Titan extension # RP45018. So that would be 500 pounds at 41 inches or 400 pounds at 48 inches. Or when used with weight distribution it would be 750/600 pounds.

Yes, they do factor in temporary shock for bumps, dips, and what have you when providing the ratings, just like with hitches. In other words the unit is not going to break from a spike in the tongue weight due to a bump or something else. If the tongue weight was constantly exceeded for long enough that is when damage can occur.
