Recommended Sidewall Powered RV Vent For A Camper Van Build

Question:

I’m doing a cargo van conversion to a camper. My problem is height. I have just enough height to get it in my garage without anything on the roof. So is this fan able to be mounted on the upper side wall of my trailer. If not this one, anyone! Thx.

While the Replacement MaxxFan Plus 4-Speed Roof Vent with White Lid # MA00-04751KSX isn't designed to be mounted on the side an RV, anything is technically possibly with a little bit of redneck engineering. That being said the lid and the arms that hold it up are plastic and would probably be too fragile to withstand driving at highways speeds facing the incorrect way.

This would probably end up costing you a fortune in replacement parts over time so you'd be better off with something else like the MaxxFan Dome Plus Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # MA00-03810W. This vent is designed to be installed on a roof or sidewall and even comes with a guard for sidewall applications. It also has an LED light so it could serve multiple purposes in your new camper van.

I do want to state that since this is smaller than the typical roof vent that it's not going to have as much power to cool your van, so you may want to install one on each side. I recommend picking up the Roof Vent Installation Kit # 344270KITW as well so that you have everything you need to properly secure and waterproof the vent to your camper van.
