Can B and W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch be Used with Turning Point Pin Box
Question:
Hi, Ive got a 2022 silverado 2500 short bed. I had a truck shop install a bandw turn over and a companion 20k. I didnt get a slider because the camper is a 21 grand design 295rl and has a turning point pin box. Havent picked up camper yet. I ordered the key to lock turning point for the bandw pn.SWW-06? I had the shop set up companion directly over the axle 18inch high. They said they had to reverse the base to get it over the axle. So now for my questions. 1 can or should I move hitch back behind axle any. 2 does what Ive done sound like it will work. Appreciate any advice. Thanks

So you are in kind of an interesting situation. The Companion hitches that attach to the truck with the Turnoverball gooseneck can't be used with pivoting pin boxes like your Turning Point UNLESS you lock out the pin box so that it gets used like a standard pin box. To do this you'll install bolts between the turret and arm of the Turning point and you wouldn't use the wedge # SWW-06 you mentioned. You would want the base of the hitch flipped around so that it moves the hitch head further back. You also would want the arms of the base in the rear position to provide more turning clearance as well.
Even without the functionality of the Turning Point the front of your Grand Design 295RL is tapered so you should still have decent turning clearance.
