Can Fulton Bolt-On Coupler # F223000301 be Bolted and Welded for Additional Strength
Question:
Hello, This coupler is a bolt on. I know it is designed to be bolted only, but will it be more solid if I was to bolt it and weld it? Thanks.

Couplers like this 3500-lb Fulton Bolt-On 2-Inch Coupler # F223000301 are designed for bolt-on installation, as you note. You could weld it in addition, after the normal bolt-on installation, but this would not increase the capacity of the coupler in any way. Its 3500-lb rated capacity would not change.
My contact at Fulton advised that the heat from welding would likely discolor the surface and could eliminate the protective Z-max anti-corrosive finish, so it would be advisable to paint the unit after welding to help prevent rust.
