Will the Thule Hull-A-Port Kayak Roof Rack Work with Round Crossbars

Question:

Does the Thule Hull-A-Port 838 fit round bars? I have an aftermarket roof rack that has 1inch round crossbars.

The Thule Hull-A-Port Kayak Roof Rack part # TH834 (TH838 No Longer Available) is not designed for use with round crossbars. That said, some have been able to use them with mixed success. The issue is that you can't really get the clamps tight enough to prevent the carrier from rotating on the bar. If you were to try this yourself, I recommend wrapping the bars with electrical tape where the clamps attach for a better fit. That said, I instead recommend going with the Yakima JayLow Kayak Roof Rack part # Y04073 which comes with an adapter specifically designed for round crossbars so it will produce a much better fit.
