Expert Reply:
The Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches that you referenced, part # RP50082, is designed specifically to fit Ford trucks and install without drilling by using the existing holes in the Ford frame. This bracket kit will not fit on your 1997 Dodge Ram 2500.
We do offer a universal base rail installation kit for your 1997 Dodge Ram 2500, part # RP30035 from Reese. This will fit both 6-foot and 8-foot beds and is compatible with several brands of 5th wheel hitch, including most from Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky. This kit includes rails, brackets and hardware and requires drilling. I have included the written installation instructions and an installation video showing this kit in a 2002 Ram.
