Troubleshooting Draw-Tite Trailer Brake Controller Showing Red Dot With Manual Lever Engaged
Question:
My brake controller formerly displayed a number when lever was moved to engage. It has stopped doing that and now just shows a red dot. Any ideas?

The single red dot you are getting on your Draw-Tite trailer brake controller is the brake controller saying a trailer is not connected when you use the manual override lever. You may have a break in the blue brake wire going to your trailer. It could also be a sign the brake controller itself is faulty and in need of replacement. You can bench test your controller by connecting the power wire and ground to a 12 volt battery and using a 12 volt light bulb as the trailer with the blue wire and the negative from the bulb to the battery ground. When the lever is activated you should see the bulb light up and the numbers on the display. The same will happen when the red brake wire is connected to power such as if you pressed the brake and sent power to the controller.
If your controller is faulty and needs replaced the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 uses the same connector as your Draw-Tite.
