what is the best way to wire a light in my cap.I have a 2002 gmc truck

Near the 7-way of your 2002 GMC Sierra there should be a wiring bundle that has an orange wire in it. This is the CHMSL (center high mount stop light) circuit. This will only have voltage when the brakes are applied and should work perfectly to wire the cap in your 2002 GMC Sierra.
