Mounting the Dual Cam Sway Control on a Low Clearance Pace American Journey Trailer

Question:

Hi. Im installing this system on a Pace American Journey cargo trailer, with a coupler height of 16. When mounting the sway control brackets at the 20-1/2inch distance specified in the installation instructions for a low coupler and trunnion bars, I need to set the sway control arms almost all the way in, to the point that the shaft of the cam touches the pivot point of the sway control arm. In the photo attached you can see that Im almost out of threads on the sway control armjust enough to loosen the lock washer and outer locking nut. Before I drill my frame, is it possible/advised to place the brackets a little further forward to keep a bit of adjustability in the system, or should I stick to the exact measurement of 20 1/2? Thanks for the info.

I talked to my guy at Reese about your weight distribution setup and you can place the frame bracket of the Dual Cam sway control bracket further forward on your trailer frame. Technically your trailer has a standard coupler. I am guessing you went with the bottom-mount coupler because the bottom of the coupler is almost level with the bottom of your trailer frame. The 20-1/2 inch measurement is to give you an idea of where the sway control bracket will be mounted, but that distance can be changed. I would try to place it at the 19-3/8 inch distance for standard couplers to see if that gives you more exposed threads on the sway control arm.

The best method of installing the sway control arms is to mount the frame bracket at a location where half of the threads on the arm exposed. Leaving half of the threads exposed allows for future adjustments if needed. If you decide to add more weight to the trailer or tow the trailer with a different truck, the sway control arms may need to be adjusted for maximum effectiveness.
