It depends on where that 500 pounds of weight is placed on the trailer and how much it increases the gross trailer weight. But if it is adding 200 pounds to the tongue weight that would put the tongue weight of the trailer at 980 pounds.

I would go with the Reese # RP66560 rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds. It comes with built-in friction sway control and a shank. You will just need a properly sized ball. Use # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch.

The only way to know for sure the best system is to load up the tow vehicle and trailer like they would normally be loaded. Then you could use a tongue weight scale, # 5780, or a method described in the FAQ I have linked to determine the trailer tongue weight. Then add in cargo loaded behind rear axle of the tow vehicle and that will be the total tongue weight.
