Tekonsha Prodigy Trailer Brake Controller Shows n.c. with Trailer Connected
Question:
The other day I got into my truck and the n.c. red led light was on and I have been getting into that truck for 20 years and noticed something was different. When I towed with it, the n.c. stayed lit but the brake lights worked, the turn signals worked and the brake on the trailer worked too when I hit the brakes. When I disconnected the trailer, the n.c. stayed lit but when I hit the brakes, the two dots would illuminated and when I took my foot off the brake, the n.c. came back and did this for the whole drive. I cleaned all connectors and still no change. I decided to disconnect the battery thinking maybe it was bug in the Prodigy that I cannot uncovered for 20 years. When I reconnected battery, the two dots were there like what is considered normal. Any ideas as to what is going on?

The "n.c" on the Tekonsha Prodigy Trailer Brake Controller indicates that there is no trailer connected. This would be normal if you indeed did not have a trailer connected but if this code is shown while there is a trailer connected then you have a problem. The controller looks for brake magnet resistance on the brake output wire (usually blue) to sense when the trailer is connected. Therefore, you'll need to check this wire on both the vehicle and trailer for frays or breaks. It could also be the brake magnets on the trailer and I have attached an article on how to check these below. If everything checks out good then you'd need to replace the controller for which we have the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 that is the newest and best version of the Prodigy line.
