Is An OEM Prep Kit Necessary For A Base Rail Kit To Be Installed

Question:

I have a 2022 F250 superduty. Removed the Reese hitch from a trade in to install in the f250. Turck does not have the OEM 5th wheel prep installed. Is the OEM 5th wheel prep necessary for the rail kit?

The OEM prep kit is a puck system, which would be an alternative to a rail kit like the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit # RP56017-53 you were looking at. Base Rails and Puck Systems have different attachment point types so you'll need to use a hitch with a compatible attachment type.

Most likely your Reese hitch connects to base rails with some pins and clips so you'd be good with installing the # RP56017-53 in your F-250 for the hitch to connect to.

If the hitch you have was setup for a puck system then you would need to change the base to attach to your base rails. If this is the case then send me some pictures and info on the hitch and I can try to find the correct replacement base.

I also recommend installing an in-bed 7-way # 20110-010 to make connecting to your 5th wheel simply and easy.
