Battery Still Dies on 2017 Chevy Equinox Even with Fuse Pulled

Question:

I have a 2017 Chevrolet equinox 4 cylinder all wheel drive. I flat tow and pull fuse 16, I can only tow about 2 hours and then I have to start the vehicle and run for about 10 minutes. Then after that I have to stop every hour because my car battery is almost dead. Is there something Im missing to do

Expert Reply:

The "Discrete Logic Ignition Switch" fuse from the instrument panel fuse box will need to be pulled before towing to prevent battery drain. This is fuse #32 in the instrument panel fuse not to be confused with the engine bay fuse panel. In order to remove said fuse I recommend using a bypass since it does not require you to physically pull the fuse each time, but rather flick a switch. I recommend the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass part # RM76511 which offers a plug-in install.

That said, you can still experience battery drain even with said fuse above removed which is why you need to using a battery charge line on this vehicle, the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles part # RM-156-25 in order to keep the battery topped off. Please note, this will also require a seven to six way connection for the transmission to take place so if you don't already have one I recommend the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit part # RM-146-7.
