Can The Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent Be Installed On The Side Of An Ice Shack

Question:

Can this vent be mounted on the sidewall of an ice shack for a bathroom vent and still be waterproof? Any concerns using it in the winter

The Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # VP-543SP is designed to be on the roof and not really on the side of anything so there is a chance that water could get through if installed on the side. The cover has an open-cell foam to help prevent anything from getting inside and a drain hole in the event that water does.

I've seen plenty of people put these on the sides of their trailers or vans and have no issues, but the chance of water getting in will always be there. I recommend using some butyl tape # AL28FJ and non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 so that you don't get any water in through the mounting holes.

As for using it during the winter, the only issue you would probably face is condensation building up inside of the vent and freezing up the fan blades or motor.
