Is Adapter Module Required to Use 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 OEM Controller with BrakeRite Actuator

Question:

I have a GM 2022 3500. I get a service trailer brake system on an intermittent basis. If the problem is due to not having an adapter on my electric over hydraulic brakes, shouldnt the message be constant and not intermittent? Im towing a fifth wheel with electric over hydraulic brakes using a brakerite pump. Will adding the adapter to my system cause any problems with the GM sending its brake system locating message in circuit 47? Thanks

From what we know the newer GM trucks, like your 2022 GMC Sierra 3500, shouldn't need the Adapter Module # DX35FR to work with the Dexter BrakeRite system, but I would be lying if I said this kind of thing hasn't popped up in the past. Where the manufacturer says the OEM controllers will work just fine but then they find some kind of exception.

Since you have a brand new truck I would hope that the brake controller isn't already posing a problem but one thing you might try doing is towing a trailer with standard electric brakes for a bit to see if you get that message then as well. If you only get it when you're towing the trailer with the BrakeRite then odds are you need the module. If you still see that issue with standard electric brakes then I would say something is going on with the factory controller and I'd take it in to have it looked at under warranty (hopefully it's covered).

Adding the module won't damage the wiring on your truck. It just helps improve the communication between the controller and actuator is all.
