Recommended Leaf Spring Replacement For A 2019 Dutchmen Kodiak Ultra-Lite 283BHSL

Question:

I have a travel trailer 2019 kodiak 283bhsl and need springs. Springs are all flat unloaded and tires are rubbing floor. Has lippert 3500lbs axles. Would like to goto a beefer set of springs. Not sure what all is required. Assuming just springs and longer u-bolt. I attached photos of axle tag and spring setup not sure if they will help.

Definitely looks like the springs are being overloaded and need to be replaced. You can use higher rated leaf springs but, the higher you go the stiffer the ride will be.

Since we know the weight class with your axles the next step would be to measure from eyelet to eyelet to figure out the correct length. With the leaf spring being flat it's going to measure a bit longer than it typically would so we would just need to find something close to the measurement.

At 4,000lbs we have a 25-1/4" # e57SR.

At 4,500lbs we have a a 26" # e27SR option.

You'll need to replace the U-bolts # CE23002 and now would be a good time to check your bolts, bushings, and shackle straps. Worn components will need to be replaced and you could also upgrade each of these components with thicker shackle straps, wet bolts, bronze bushings, etc.

Another option to help out your suspension is to install some SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # TSS-107-40 to help cushion your ride and take some of the load off of the leaf springs. This kit is per axle so you would need to get two for your tandem axles.

I've attached some videos below to help offer some additional information and show you the installation process as well.
