Can Yakima Rack and Roll Tire and Tube Be Mounted Without Going to Tire Shop
Question:
How difficult or easy is it to replace the tire and tube? Based on some of the reviews/QandA, it seems like a real pain. Are there any tools that would make the replacement process easier? Do I really need to take the tire to a shop to install it? My tires are about 12-13 years old and I think its time to replace them, but I would like to avoid purchasing the entire wheel if possible to save on cost.

It is possible to mount the # Y8880282 and # Y8880283 yourself but you're going to need tire spoons. You will also need a way to hold the wheel in place, another person could hold it for you. However, as you saw from the other reviews more than likely this will not be an easy process.
Since it seems like you're not familiar with it, I would recommend taking it to a shop for installation. Also, if you take it to a shop and they pop the tube installing it that will be on them and not you to replace. More than likely you would be better off getting the # Y08121 once you account for the installation cost and tools.
