For an economical bike rack that you will only occasionally use, I recommend the Yakima SuperJoe Pro 2 # Y02629 for your 2012 Volkswagen Eos. The SuperJoe Pro is lightweight (13 lbs) and has a sturdy construction.

The SuperJoe comes with hooks that are to be used on vehicles with glass hatch windows that are required for installation on your vehicle.

If you will be carrying bikes other than a typical mens bike with the tube straight across, I recommend checking out the Yakima Tube Top Adapter Bar # Y02531. This bar will carry your bike level and also provide proper ground clearance.

Because you are making such a long trip I also recommend the Yakima Security Strap # Y02623. This strap simply loops around the rack and your bikes and is secured in your trunk.

I have attached brief videos of the SuperJoe and the adapter bar. The SuperJoe video is of the 3 bike version, however the installation is the same.
