7-Way Flat Connector and Brake Controller for 1992 Ford F-150
Question:
I have a 1992 f150 and a new trailer with brakes that I am trying to match up. The f150 has a 7 way round connector and the trailer has a 7 way flat. Should I replace the 7 way round on the truck with a 7 way flat or should I get an adapter? Also I have no controler that I can see in the cab. Do these old trucks have a built in controller? or do I need one?

I would replace the 7-way round with a 7-way flat connector since the flat style is very common and the round is basically only used on semi trucks now so you aren't going to be able to use what you have now without an adapter. If your 1992 Ford F-150 has the standard round connector that attaches to the current 7-way you could swap what you have with the part # HM40975 which would plug right in. Otherwise you'd also need to go with the 7-way lead # PK11998 to make those connections.
Your truck does not have a built in brake controller so you would need to install one like the Tekonsha Brake EVN part # TK63VR which can sense how hard to apply the trailer brakes, is very reliable and is also priced great. For a wiring kit to wire this to your truck you'd also need the part # 5506.
