Does Using the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier Reduce Your Hitches Tongue Weight By a Certain Percentage

Question:

According to charts I have seen, tongue weight rating for a car/hitch is reduced based on the shank length. for a standard 2inch ball, the shank length is around 3inch For this hitch carrier, the distance to the carrier track center is 15-20. So, the chart i have seen says that with a 12-17inch extension over standard 2inch ball, the hitch/car tongue weight max rating is reduced by 1/3? Class IV hitch of 750lbs would have max of 500 at 18 inch extension Class II hitch of 500 lbs would have max of 325 at 18 inch extension Is that correct?

Expert Reply:

That typically only applies when you are using a hitch extender, which is adding in another moving part. When using the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier for 2" Hitches # UF48-979033 the carrier has a 500 lb. capacity and it does not take away a percentage of the tongue weight of your hitch on your vehicle.

As long as your hitch has a tongue weight rated for at least 500 lbs. then you can use the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier for 2" Hitches # UF48-979033.
