Will the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack for 1-1/4" Hitch Work with E-Bikes

Question:

Hi etrailer team, I own a Curt 2 bike rack using a 1/1/4inch hitch and Im wanting to know if you think it will hold an e bike weighing in at 50 lbs. Most of the time I will only be accommodating the one e bike but I may add a second non- e bike on occasion. If you think this is not the best set up then Ill have to purchase one of the racks that you detailed in your Racks for e-bikeinch section thank you for that, it was helpful. Thoughts? Thanks,

The Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack part # C18085 only has a 45 lb per bike weight capacity so it won't be good for e-bikes, even if only one e-bike is used as the per bike weight capacity is per cradle as that's all they are designed to handle. Therefore, it's time to upgrade to an e-bike rated rack for which I recommend the Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack for 2 Bikes part # SA4025F. This rack has a 60 lb per bike weight capacity which will handle most e-bikes and it's only 35 lbs so it's very easy to get on and off the vehicle.

Please note, if your bike has fenders you can't use the SuperClamp or any wheel holder style rack like it and in which case, I recommend the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes part # Y96FR. This rack has a 66 per bike weight capacity and also comes with a ramp for easy loading the bikes onto the rack. They both have locks for security as well.
