What is Backspacing of Aluminum HWT Series S5 Trailer Wheel AM22658HWTB
Question:
I have a 32 ft travel trailer Imagine by Grand Design. It has 15 aluminum wheels with 225/75- 15 load range E tires and I want to go to 16aluminum wheels with either 245/75-16 LT or 235/75 16 LT load range E tires. Based on my measurements of the wheel well, I believe this will work for height and distance between the tire on the axle spacing. I want to buy the new wheels but not sure about the offset. that might make the tires too close to either the inside or outside of the wheel well width. Can you tell me how to determine that information and which wheels will work?

Nearly all trailer wheels have a zero offset and the ones that don't have an offset that is very close to zero. For example the 16 inch trailer wheel part # AM22658HWTB that you mentioned has a zero offset. This is a 16 inch trailer wheel that is 6-1/2 inches wide and has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Since this is 6-1/2 inches wide with a zero offset that would mean that the backspacing of the wheel would be 3-3/4 inches. So since you want to have at least one inch of clearance from the wheel to the trailer fender you'd need to have at least 4-3/4 inches from your hub face to the frame for this wheel to work. We do not carry either tire size you mentioned though. In general you want about 3-4 inches of clearance from top of fender to top of tire.
