Troubleshooting Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller Install On a 2004 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
I installed the Redarc Tow-Pro with Dash Knob on my 2004 4Runner with tow package. The dash knob does not light up and appears to have no power. I used the Tekonsha Plug-in wiring harness and had to cut the supplied plug off to wire it to corresponding wires of the Redarc supplied Universal harness. In doing so I used Crimp-on butt splice connectors. I had power to the black wire of the Plug-in harness. Any suggestions before I tear back into the vehicle and check all wire connections? Connecting to my trailer, I have all lights on trailer working but no braking. Any suggestions?

There are issues with the ground wire on your 2004 Toyota 4Runner when installing a brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR. I know you mentioned cutting off the Tekonsha side of the Adapter # 3040-P which has an additional ground connection tied into the connector. You will need to ensure that this is used since you do not have the Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter for Tekonsha Brake Controller Harness # 331-TPH-017.
If you used the additional ground wire and it is still not working properly you will want to test the wires to ensure it did not blow a fuse for the brake controller on the black wire.
