Parts Needed to Connect 2004 Dodge Dakota Reverse Light Circuit to Universal Wiring Kit
Question:
I recently bought the 4 way to the 7 way plug. I noticed when I went to run the yellow wire to the reverse lights on my truck the yellow wire is not long enough to reach the back up light. I know I need to hook that up for the fact I have a older dodge Dakota and pull a boat trailer that has the breaks on it. If not mistaken I have to hook up the yellow to the reverse wire to be able to back up the boat trailer. Just wondering what to do to fix this issue. Thanks

If the yellow aux function wire from the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 isn't long enough to connect to the reverse light circuit on your 2004 Dodge Dakota then you'll need a length of the 16 Gauge Wire # 16-1-1 (sold by the foot) and butt connectors like the kit # DW05744-5 which come with a heat shrink wrap that protects the connection better than a standard butt connector.
If your boat trailer has an actuator with an electric lockout then yes, the reverse light function is what you need in order for the electric lockout to work properly so you can backup without your trailer brakes activating.
