How Does P3 Brake Controller Install in 2012 Ram 2500 with OEM Controller

I have bought the harness 3021-p and prodigy P2 controller! Does the factory box need to be unplugged before harness is installed in other plug under dash

The install harness part # 3021-P is correct to install the P2 part # 90885 in your 2012 Ram 2500. You would need to unplug your OEM brake controller like you mentioned.
To install an aftermarket brake control you will have to disconnect the ITBM. This will turn on a warning lamp on the instrument cluster. In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the warning lamp, your local Dodge dealer will have to reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), of the truck. Once the TIPM has been reconfigured, and the ITBM has been unplugged, you can use a vehicle specific brake control harness.
